Northern Sweet Pecan Tree Seeds (Carya Illinoinensis) – Cold Hardy Zones 5-9 – 5 Seeds By SeedHead

Ever thought about growing your own pecans?

These Northern Sweet Pecan seeds (Carya illinoinensis) are a fantastic choice if you’ve got the space.

They’re hardy down to Zone 5, so they can handle colder winters better than standard varieties.

Just remember—pecan trees need a buddy for pollination, so you’ll want to plant two or three to get a good nut crop.

These can grow into massive, 70-100 foot tall trees that provide shade, beautiful wood, and of course, delicious pecans.

The nuts are edible and the wood is great for furniture or smoking meat.

Fun fact: Thomas Jefferson and George Washington grew pecans from seeds like these!

Seeds need about 90 days of cold stratification before planting.

Best in full sun to partial shade, with well-draining soil (loam, sand, chalk, etc.) and heavy watering.

Grown in the USA.

Moderate difficulty to cultivate, but totally worth it for the fall colors and homegrown nuts.
