This is a CNC.BZ aluminum flexible beam coupler for the Z-axis.

Aluminum Flex Shaft Coupler - 5mm to 8mm - The Pi Hut

It connects the stepper motor shaft (5mm) to the lead screw (8mm, which is also 5/16 inch).

The spiral cut design allows for a little bit of misalignment, which is common in 3D printers, and helps reduce binding and z-wobble.
